How to set up your wireless printer

Step one: Unbox and configure printer

  1. Unbox your printer. You won’t need the Brother instruction book, just follow along with these steps. You can scroll through this series of printer settings to view while you walk through each step.
  2. Assemble and insert the roll of badges into the printer.
  3. Plug the black power cord into the printer and a power socket.
  4. Press the power button to turn on the printer. Make sure the green status light comes on.
  5. Use the [▲], [▼] and [OK] buttons to set your language, the time and date as prompted.
  6. If you’re not already on the main screen, navigate there now using [] button.
  7. Use the [▲] and [▼] buttons to select Template Settings. Set Template Mode to OFF.
  8. If you’re not already on the main screen, navigate there now using [] button.
  9. Use the [▲] and [▼] buttons to select Settings. Select ‘Auto Power Off’ > Adapter to OFF.
  10. Press the [Menu] button.
  11. Use the [▲] and [▼] buttons to select WLAN > WLAN (On/Off) > On in the settings menu. Press [OK].
  12. Use the [▲] and [▼] buttons to select WLAN > Infra Manual Setting in the settings menu. Press [OK].
  13. Your printer will search for available Wi-Fi networks. Remember, your printer and iPad will need to be on the same network.
  14. Use the [▲] and [▼] buttons to select your desired network. Press OK.
  15. Provide your password.
  16. Look in the top right of the screen. Press [Menu] to switch between uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols.
  17. Use the [▲] and [▼] buttons to select the correct characters.
  18. If it connects, it will say “Connected!” Press [OK].
  19. If it does not connect, repeat steps 9 through 11.
  20. Press the [] button to return to the main screen. You should see the Wi-Fi icon in the top right.

Step two: Find the IP address

  1. Use the [▲] and [▼] buttons to select WLAN > WLAN Status > Infrastructure Mode in the settings menu. Press [OK].
  2. Beside IP Addr, you’ll see see the IP address. It will be a series of numbers separated by periods (for example: 192.168.1.44 or 10.0.1.23).

Step three: pair the printer with The Receptionist

  1. Go on to your account dashboard online, and select the Buttons page. Hover your mouse over the check in button and click the ‘edit’ that pops up.  Scroll ALL the way to the bottom of your button settings and ensure that you have enabled badge printing and selected the correct badge roll. Once enabled and selected, click ‘Save’ at the bottom.
  2. On your iPad, follow these instructions to link your iPad to your printer.
  3. Complete a test check in for a visitor. Your badge should print automatically upon completion of your check in.

At this stage in setup, we recommend having your IT team set up a static IP address. Using a static IP address will provide you with continuous connectivity to your printer.
