We began 2020 by giving back to SafeHouse Denver

Just because the year-end holiday season is over doesn’t mean we stop thinking of others. Giving back to those in need is a worthy year-round cause.

That’s why we’ve decided to use the month of January, a time of new starts and resolutions, to give back to an organization our team members chose: SafeHouse Denver.

SafeHouse provides crucial services to survivors of domestic violence and their children, and we are so honored to work with them throughout the month of January.

It started when Michael Ashford, our Director of Marketing, had a last-minute lightbulb moment in the days before Cyber Monday. Although Cyber Monday is not typically an occasion that B2B SaaS companies like The Receptionist participate in, Michael thought it would be a great opportunity to turn around the typical Cyber Monday messaging of buying material things and instead use the day to give back.

So, for every credit card trial started on Cyber Monday, we donated money to a charity of that user’s choice.

Then we thought: why stop there? And why not extend a day of giving to the entire month?

Instead of credit card trials activated on a single day, we decided to donate $5 for every free trial (no need to have a credit card linked) started during the month of January. And, as January is a month that represents change, resolutions, and new beginnings, we knew SafeHouse Denver would be the perfect organization to donate to. <!–[if lte IE 8]>

SafeHouse’s services include emergency shelter, advocacy, and counseling for thousands of survivors in the Denver area, and has a mission close to the hearts of our entire team.

Here at The Receptionist, we commit to getting out of the office for a day of volunteering at least twice a year. So, hand-in-hand with our effort to donate for every free trial, we also worked with SafeHouse for our first volunteer day of 2020.

On that day, The Receptionist team split up into two groups to help minimize the impact we made on what is often the only safe place survivors have. Both groups began with an introduction to SafeHouse, the work the team does in the Denver area through services like their emergency shelter, 24-hour domestic violence crisis line, non-residential counseling, and an extended stay program. We also got a sense of the pressing need for those services; our volunteer coordinator noted SafeHouse has to refer survivors to other programs hourly as the beds they have in their emergency shelter are full.

The Receptionist and SafeHouse Volunteer Day Team One
The first team hard at work organizing donations!

Our first volunteer group dug in right away organizing a large storage shed and setting up the second group for success by organizing the house’s basement. Group 2 took over and finished the basement organization.

The basement acts as storage for all of SafeHouse’s donations — items like clothes for survivors and their children, toiletries, and toys. After a holiday season filled with generous donations, you can imagine the basement was a little disorganized.

We worked to make sure every donation was in its rightful place and easy for SafeHouse volunteers and workers to find should a resident have a need or make a request. By the end of the day, all of the new donations were completely organized thanks to the help of our volunteer coordinator who fielded questions about where everything should live throughout both shifts.

We are honored to be able to help SafeHouse with both our time and our free-trial donation drive.

Here’s how you can join us to help give back this month:

  • Sign up for a 14-day free trial of The Receptionist for iPad any time in the month of January and try out our radical visitor management software for yourself.
  • We will donate $5 to SafeHouse Denver – it’s that simple.

There’s still time this month to start a free trial and help grow our donation to SafeHouse Denver. Let’s make this year a great start to the new decade, and the step towards a better start for everyone.
